Sign up for cleveland.com’s Medicare and Golden Retirement free virtual event Oct. 27

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Find out the latest information about Medicare coverage, and have your questions answered during The Plain Dealer and cleveland.com Guide to Medicare & Golden Retirement presented by Medical Mutual. The virtual free event is Thursday, Oct. 27, 4:30–6 p.m.

Participants must preregister on the web page to receive a Zoom link for joining the event.

This workshop offers panels lead by Medicare experts who will explain plan options, how to choose the right plan for you, and insights on drug plan options. There also will be a moderated Q&A session.

Speakers include:

  • Katie Goff, director of pharmacy Medicare and information services at Medical Mutual.
  • Dr. Tere Koenig, executive vice president and chief medical officer of Medical Mutual.
  • Amanda McFarland, account manager for Northeast Ohio at Medical Mutual.
  • Christina Reeg, program director of the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) housed within the Ohio Department of Insurance.
  • Julie Washington, moderator, healthcare reporter at the Plain Dealer and cleveland.com.

The Medicare open enrollment period — during which people already receiving Medicare can make changes to their plans — begins Saturday, Oct. 15 and runs through Wednesday, Dec. 7. There are penalties for late enrollment.

In August, Congress approved the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, which enacted several changes in Medicare that are coming in 2023. These changes include a cap on the price of insulin, expensive vaccines available for free and decreased premium costs.
