Dow down nearly 175 points on losses in shares of American Express, Apple

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is falling Friday afternoon with shares of American Express and Apple facing the biggest declines for the price-weighted average. Shares of American Express AXP, -2.72% and Apple AAPL, -2.39% are contributing to the index’s intraday decline, as the Dow DJIA, -0.76% was most recently trading 172 points, or 0.6%, lower. American Express’s shares are down $3.22 (2.3%) while those of Apple are off $2.85, or 2.0%, combining for an approximately 40-point drag on the Dow. Also contributing significantly to the decline are Chevron CVX, -2.23%, Caterpillar CAT, -2.13%, and Honeywell HON, -1.45%. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the Dow results in a 6.59-point swing.
