Dow's 250-point drop led by losses for shares of American Express, Apple

Shares of American Express and Apple are trading lower Friday afternoon, dragging the Dow Jones Industrial Average into negative territory. The Dow DJIA, -1.02% was most recently trading 252 points, or 0.8%, lower, as shares of American Express AXP, -3.08% and Apple AAPL, -2.81% are contributing to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday decline. American Express’s shares are off $4.07 (2.9%) while those of Apple have fallen $3.63 (2.5%), combining for an approximately 51-point drag on the Dow. Other components contributing significantly to the decline include Chevron CVX, -2.67%, Caterpillar CAT, -2.34%, and Dow DOW, -1.88%. A $1 move in any one of the 30 components of the index equates to a 6.59-point swing.
