American Express, Verizon share losses contribute to Dow's nearly 150-point drop

Behind negative returns for shares of American Express and Verizon, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is down Thursday morning. Shares of American Express and Verizon are contributing to the blue-chip gauge’s intraday decline, as the Dow was most recently trading 149 points (0.4%) lower. American Express’s shares are down $7.22 (4.4%) while those of Verizon are off $1.23, or 3.2%, combining for an approximately 56-point drag on the Dow. Other components contributing significantly to the decline include Cisco Dow and Chevron A $1 move in any of the Dow’s 30 components equates to a 6.59-point swing.
