Royal Challengers Bangalore fast bowler Mohammed Siraj said that the work he put in during the lockdown is paying dividends now. Siraj was adjudged the Player of the Match after he picked up four wickets against Punjab Kings in their 24-run win at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
Speaking at the post-match ceremony, Siraj said the lockdown was very important for him, helping him improve his fitness and bowling, which is paying dividends now. Siraj ended the game with four wickets to his name, while giving away just 21 runs in four overs.
“The lockdown was really important for me, because I used to get hit for boundaries very often before that. I worked on my plans, my fitness and my bowling and it’s all paying dividends now,” said Siraj.

Speaking about his first wicket of the game, Siraj said he bowled full to get some swing early on. Siraj dismissed PBKS opener Atharva Taide in just the third ball of the game, before dismissing Liam Livingstone in the fourth over to peg PBKS back.
“First ball the length was a bit short and then I sensed the need to bowl full to get some swing and that was the plan,” Siraj added.
Speaking about his efforts in the field, Siraj said he understands that it is important to contribute in whichever way possible. Siraj dismissed Harpreet Singh through a direct-throw during a crucial point of the match.
“I always try to improve in every department of the game because I understand it is important to contribute in whichever way possible. Always rated myself as a decent fielder, misfields can happen but I take my fielding seriously,” said Siraj.
The win over PBKS took RCB fifth in the IPL 2023 points table, with PBKS slipping to seventh place. They will now host Rajasthan Royals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in the next game on April 23.
